The biggest obstacle everyone has when building up a blog is that writing original content for their blogs can be pretty time-consuming. Many think there are no benefits or results from all their hard work, and I understand them, don’t you?

As the saying goes, time is money, so when writing hours of original content for your blog, you’d want to see more than just a few visits and some retweets. Any blog owner would want to be able to extend the life of his blog.

Finding yourself struggling to write content for your blog can be a bad feeling and time-consuming. While searching for something for a new article, you probably forget all the great content you already have on your blog. You can republish that content on a newsletter or ezine, which is a great way to get further exposure for your articles while not having to deal with search engine duplicate content issue.

You’ve probably written your best work already, and it would be a shame if you published it only in one place! Rewriting articles for guest blogging is a great and highly advised idea. Rewrite and submit your highest viewed or commented article on blog articles as it would surely have success there too! Also, you cannot skip the rewriting part. Most of the blogs that accept guest posts want 100% unique content and you really don’t want to deal with Google filters.

Updating or reusing old articles is a great way to help increase traffic. Most bloggers wrote articles that never saw the light of day because they had a small audience. So, it’s much easier to update old posts instead of writing entirely new ones.

Your time is a precious Internet resource which is the best benefit of repurposing content is the time it can save you in the content creation process! You don’t have to create new content every day. You just have to work on getting the articles in the hands of more people!

In addition to this, there are many other advantages you can have from repurposing articles. For example, you get a huge SEO boost. Multiple parts of content around the same topic can create opportunities to target a desired keyword. Moreover, taking your repurposed article outside of your site, you can receive quality links back to your site.

By repurposing your content you can reach a new audience. In most of cases, your original piece of content only got into the hands of a few customers. By repurposing the article, you can reach a wider audience. Repurposing articles provides the content our audiences are searching for in all the places they search.

Moreover, repetition can be essential for sending a message that sinks in. Marketing’s Rule of 7 states that buyers need to hear your message seven times before they’ll close the deal! Repurposing goes a long way towards this.

Or you can find your evergreen content! “Evergreen content” represents high quality and timeless content. That means none of the content should soon become irrelevant or outdated, such as news articles, seasonal articles, or content that contains statistics or other information that might change.

Not all of your content will be evergreen, but you can still repurpose those articles around a specific theme. For example, a blog that had a successful piece named “How to eat healthy” can change the name to “How to eat healthy in Europa” to “How to eat healthy in Asia” and so on and so forth.

Of course, if you don’t want to rewrite or repurpose your article, you can always improve SEO in some old posts. Make minor changes in titles or primary keywords, or add new keywords. Then, share your new SEO post across social media. You could even improve header tags and other on-page SEO factors that have nothing to do with the actual copy.
However, you can also separate one article into multiple pieces of content. Blog articles that contain lists or district paragraphs/sections can easily be turned into multiple pieces of content. This longer list might have made great content but now, it can make multiple great pieces of content! These separate articles might target certain keywords as well helping with SEO and internal links.

If your blog is young, you should write articles with the idea of how to repurpose them in the future, aiming to create more evergreen content for your blog that you’ll be able to visit later.

To wrap it up, content shouldn’t be repurposed with the intention of just benefiting your business. It’s great that you want an SEO boost or higher conversion rates, but the best way to repurpose is to make sure that you create content that provides real value to your readers that might turn in loyal customers as well.

If your site is in Google Purgatory, prepare to spend some time suffering.

Google maintains two separate databases of indexed web pages. The main index holds billions of pages; this is where most search results come from. The second is called the “Supplemental index,” and searchers will never see those pages unless they put in long and specific keywords relevant only to some supplemental index page.

Therefore, don’t expect pages in the Supplemental index to receive significant traffic from Google.

Go to Google and run the standard query to determine whether your site is indexed — site:yourdomain.com . If you see the words “Supplemental Result” following the page size, that page is in the Supplemental results.

Here are logical reasons for your pages to be included in the Supplemental results:

1. Your page is duplicate content.

2. Your site doesn’t have any actual, original content.

3. The page is orphaned – that is, there’re no links to it.

4. Your site’s content has been “scraped” — that is, you’ve just copied search engine results pages or converted RSS feeds to static HTML pages.

5. You’ve used spammy techniques to promote your site.

6. Your page seems to exist only to generate Adsense revenue. Use the page to sell something.

7. Your page software generates URLs with a “SessionID.”

8. Your site’s pages are dynamically generated — and timed out when Googlebot was visiting your site.

9. Your dynamically generated page URLs contain “&ID” or “?”.

10. Your dynamically generated URIs have parser errors that create poor HTML.

11. Your content management system delivers the same content on pages with different URLs.

How do you get out of Purgatory? Repent, suffer for your sins and correct them.

1. If your site is dynamically generated, do whatever you can to eliminate timeouts, improve server performance, and eliminate parser errors. If possible, eliminate URIs with “?” and “&” in them.

2. Make your HTML code up to date and technically perfect. Upgrade to XHTML. Eliminate all deprecated elements, such as the tag. Use Cascading Style Sheets instead of tables to lay out your pages. Check all your pages with the W3C validator (http://validator.w3.org/) or a similar tool and correct all errors.

3. Eliminate duplicate and scraped content.

4. Add original content.

5. Place Adsense code below your content.

6. Make sure that all pages you want indexed have links.

7. Get listed in directories that allow “deep” links to pages below your home page. Here’s one list: http://www.directorycritic.com/deep-links-directory-list.html .

8. Get listed in directories Google loves and trusts: Yahoo!, Open Directory Project, Uncover the Net, Site Sift, Best of the Web, Microsoft SBD, http://Business.com, JoeAnt, Skaffe, http://GoGuides.Org and LinkCentre.

9. Start a blog and link to a different inner page (with actual and new content in your blog entry) daily.

10. Write and submit articles with links to different inner pages in the resource boxes.

11. Post helpful information in discussion forums and, where appropriate and valuable, post links to your inner pages.

12. Keep your Google Sitemap up to date.

13. If you trade links with other web admins, only with non-spammy, relevant sites. And encourage them to link to your inner pages.

The easier you make it for Google to find, crawl, like and trust all pages on your site, the more likely you will avoid or (in time) get out of the Supplemental results.
